Richard Shiu not only knows the fast-paced lifestyle of Manhattan but how real estate plays a crucial part of that lifestyle.
Born and raised in Queens, Richard left his hometown to attend Bucknell University in Pennsylvania. Accustomed to the “fast lane,” he wanted to get his studies out of the way and join the illustrious world of finance in Manhattan. Richard returned to New York within four years with a degree in Finance and Economics and quickly became part of the world financial hub that is his beloved city.
Beginning his career on Wall Street, he worked as a trader for JP Morgan, then as head of proprietary trading for a large Swedish investment bank. Richard quickly carved out a niche for himself, learning the intricacies of the volatile market of finance in the mid-2000s and became one of Wall Street’s best and brightest traders. At the top of his game, he left to branch out on his own as a developer in Manhattan.
New York Real Estate Partners at Keller Williams NYC
Founding his own development firm in his early 30s, he built and renovated condos throughout the city, including Harlem where he realized the financial potential for the historical brownstones and abundance of vacant land that make up the now revitalized neighborhood. His vision paid off exponentially; his ROI tripled, as did his clients’.
Always seeking new challenges and opportunities, Richard decided to become an expert in yet another phase of real estate finance — as a broker. New York Real Estate Partners, partnering with Keller Williams NYC, was the perfect marriage to capitalize on each organization’s prime strengths: stellar customer service coupled with expertise in development, marketing and sales of Manhattan luxury properties. Keller Williams’ focus on education and its rapidly growing reputation as one of the city’s most innovative real estate companies was the perfect match for Richard’s entrepreneurial spirit.
Richard’s vast experience in finance and economics gives his clients the assurance that their investments make sound, financial sense and his hands-on experience as a builder/developer gives them the added benefit of knowing the blueprint of a home is as it should be.
Richard’s impressive list of accomplishments includes serving as a Board Member of the New York Historical Society Young Friends on Central Park West and as a former Board Member of the Co-op Board at The Stimson House in Murray Hill. His insider knowledge and expertise of the buying/approval process enables him to expertly advise and prepare clients for the specific nuances of this unique New York City market.
Richard’s outstanding reputation as an expert financial consultant, developer and broker make up his professional repertoire; his personal notoriety, shared by friends, colleagues and clients, is one of impeccable standards — integrity, honesty and always doing the right thing.
Richard’s personal passions and activities include travel and extreme sports. He trained competitively in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu for seven years and is an avid kitesurfer and snowboarder. As a catamaran sailor, he has participated in several regattas, including the St. Maarten Regatta and continues to brave the open seas whenever he has a chance.
Richard lives in Long Island City where he has a perfect, unobstructed view of the Manhattan skyline.
